The London Bar Association for Common Law and Commercial Barristers (LBA) dates back to 1965 and is now one of the largest of the Specialist Bar Associations with a current membership of approximately 1,500 barristers.
LBA membership is open to any member of the Bar of England & Wales whose practice is predominantly civil law within the High Court, including the Commercial Court, the County Court and/or tribunals in and around London.
The Association represents the interests of members whose practices range from general common law to purely commercial work, as well as those who specialise in such diverse areas as construction, personal injury, professional negligence, employment, revenue, defamation, environmental, competition and EU law. Because of our broadly-based and large membership, the Association is in a strong position to protect and advance the interests of our members and to influence developments in civil law and practice.
The current Chair is Adam Baradon KC (Blackstone Chambers). See more information on the Officers and Committee.
The LBA represents our members’ interests on the Bar Council; produces papers and consultation responses for and to the Bar Council, the Law Commission, the Bar Standards Board and the Ministry of Justice on matters of substantive and procedural law and issues affecting LBA members; organises regular seminars and lectures on topics of interest/concern to our members and liaises with other specialist bar associations and the London Solicitors’ Litigation Association.
